About us

From Yoko sensei to you.

Hello everyone,

Thank you very much for joining our "Japanese Language Course." My name is Yoko Matsuda, and I am truly delighted to have the opportunity to share this learning experience with all of you as your instructor.

Through my own experience of learning multiple languages, I have come to realize that language acquisition is not just about effort but also about understanding the culture and context behind the language.

I have learned English and German, and have had the opportunity to live and work overseas. I believe this experience will be helpful as you embark on your journey to learn Japanese.

Additionally, I have worked in various professions and have experienced firsthand the importance of communication in different cultural and professional environments. I strongly believe that language is not just a tool, but a bridge that allows us to understand each other's thoughts and feelings, and connect with one another.

One key aspect of this course is the difference between the formal language learned in textbooks and the actual spoken Japanese used in real-life situations in Japan. I will support you in learning Japanese effectively, enabling you to apply it in everyday situations. In addition to daily conversation and business Japanese, we will also explore Japanese culture and customs, and enjoy learning together.

I aim to use my experience to provide personalized learning methods that suit each of you and help improve your Japanese skills. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to ask.

I look forward to sharing this rewarding learning journey with all of you.

Thank you, and I look forward to working with you!

Japan: A Mysterious Country of Harmony and Nature

According to the ancient texts Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, Japan has had a continuous imperial line for about 2,700 years. This makes Japan a rare example of a "single dynasty nation" in the world.

The Japanese language is also unique. It is considered a "language isolate," as it has no proven connection to any other language family. Japanese uses three writing systems—hiragana, katakana, and kanji—each with its own function. The grammar, word order, and honorific language reflect the way Japanese people think and interact with others.

At the heart of Japanese culture is the idea of wa, or harmony. Instead of expressing one’s opinions directly, people value keeping peace and reading the mood of others. This is closely related to the indirect and ambiguous way Japanese is often spoken.

Another important aspect is the belief in yaoyorozu no kami, or “eight million gods.” People believe that gods exist in all things in nature—mountains, rivers, trees, and stones. Visiting shrines and praying is a way to show respect and stay connected to nature.

Finally, Japanese people uniquely enjoy the sounds of insects as music. In autumn, they listen to the voices of insects like crickets and bell crickets and feel the change of season. This deep sensitivity to nature is a special part of Japanese culture.
